Gustav Louženský

According to the student registry, Gustav Louženský was born in Hradec Králové – Prague Suburbs in 1911, but there is no record of his birth in the relevant Catholic or Protestant registers. In 1929–1934 he studied at the Faculty of Architecture and Civil Engineering of the Prague Czech Technical University, where his main professor was Antonín Engel. In the mid–1930s, Louženský returned to Hradec Králové, where he took part mainly in competitions for school buildings. First it was a competition for the unbuilt new school building in Předměřice nad Labem and in 1938, he won with his project for the school in Farářství (later Jiráskovo náměstí square), which started to be built a year later. In the same year he participated in a competition for a mountain hotel in Donovaly in the Low Tatras. In 1940–1941, designed the progressive villa of František Sternwald on the outskirts of Hradec Králové. After WWII, Louženský became involved in collectivized construction and architecture. In the mid–1950s, he designed a standard project for nursing homes, which he conceived as small hospitals with a floor plan in the shape of the letter T. Gustav Louženský also published in the trade journals as late as 1968.
